The 2014 Georgia National Fair will hit the record books as the second largest in the organization’s history. Hosting 456,023 guests from October 2-12, the total attendance grew 1.4 % over the previous Fair. The 25th anniversary event also realized three record days. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, October 7 through 9, also achieved the largest daily crowd attendance for a Georgia National Fair.
Organizers attribute the increase to a combination of weather, planning, and leadership. Georgia Agricultural Exposition Authority Executive Director, Randy Moore, explains “We were blessed with excellent weather conditions for the run of the Fair. Good weather usually prompts our patrons to visit and enjoy the event with some coming multiple times throughout the 11 days.” The Georgia National Fair staff made every effort to create entertainment and attractions which would be pleasing to visitors coming from all areas of the state. Mr. Moore states, “All aspects of Georgia are celebrated during the Fair. The Fair showcases livestock competitions, the Georgia Living program, and the traditional components such as the midway food and rides offering entertainment and attractions for all interests. We pride ourselves on the value offered as well. Once the fairgoer enters the gates they experience over $600,000 of free concerts, exhibits, and shows.”
New for the 25th Annual Fair was the addition of WOW! Wednesday, which featured a free concert by Ricky Skaggs. “This is a genre of music the Fair has not featured before and we feel as though it was well received,” said Mr. Moore. The Georgia Agricultural Exposition Authority has a large leadership role in the ultimate shape each Fair takes. Mr. Moore explains, “The members of the Authority deserve due credit for providing excellent guidance and support to each department which resulted in a seamless and successful Fair.”
In the end the production and execution is a total team effort. Mr. Moore elaborates, “The public experiences the product of hundreds of individuals working together to provide a fun, safe, memorable experience. We are honored to be able to provide the State of Georgia with such a fantastic avenue to celebrate what makes us unique as well as experience 11 days of family fun”.
